APTUK and RPS map out joint future

The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) have announced plans to develop a common five-year strategy document. Billed as a “road map”, the paper is the latest in a series of collaborations between the two professional bodies.

In a joint statement, the organisations said: “We will work together to guide and lead both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to a consensus on roles and responsibilities within an effective and efficient pharmacy team which can only enhance the delivery of quality and safe pharmacy services to patients and the public.”

The document follows on from similar projects that have explored how the community pharmacy workforce can be best deployed in order to maximise the benefits for patients and the public, as well as healthcare as a whole. One of the first focuses will be on supporting revalidation ahead of the changes the GPhC is planning to make in this area over the next two years.

The announcement can be found on the APTUK website.
