Be confident and take the initiative

More than a fifth of sufferers claim that they are affected by colds and/or flu regardless of the time of year, according to research carried on behalf of GSK. The study also somewhat surprisingly revealed that the majority of people suffer in the autumn (57 per cent) compared to winter months (47 per cent). And 71 per cent of customers always have some type of cold and flu treatment at home.

The research also revealed that shoppers look for well-known brands when purchasing cold and flu products and 64 per cent of customers purchase the same brand again. On the back of these results, GSK is encouraging pharmacy staff to be confident and take the initiative by asking customers what they’re looking for and what symptoms they’re hoping to treat. “Pharmacy staff should look out for customers who are taking a long time to choose products, as they may have clear symptoms for which the products they’ve selected aren’t appropriate,” said a spokesperson for the company.
