More Brits cut down on sugar

Forty-six per cent of Brits have taken at least one course of action to monitor or reduce their sugar intake in the last year. According to new research from Mintel, over a quarter (27 per cent) check food labels for sugar content more often than they did in the previous 12 months, while 26 per cent have limited the amount of sugar in their diet and 25 per cent have cooked from scratch to control their sugar intake. Weight management is the most commonly cited reason to cut back on sugar (56 per cent), followed by health concerns (42 per cent).

And it seems media coverage may be helping people to make healthier choices. Forty-three per cent of the population noticed an increase in media coverage on the health effects of sugar and most (62 per cent) of these people were more likely to have taken action to cut down their sugar intake.
