Getting medicines use ‘up to scratch'

Pharmacy teams in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, are supporting patients to get the most out of their medicines and promoting pharmacy services through an innovative scratch card campaign. Developed by Community Pharmacy West Yorkshire (CPWY), the campaign involves scratch cards resembling medicines packets that feature five simple statements about medicines use. By scratching the appropriate responses and returning the card to a member of the pharmacy team, customers can find out if they could benefit from any of the range of services on offer, such as a medicines use review or the new medicine service.

Robbie Turner, CEO of CPWY, said that the 47 participating pharmacies were “excited to be the first to try these scratch cards,” adding that the campaign “will hopefully help make people more aware of the availability of pharmacy services, and in turn have an impact on their medicines use and long-term health outcomes”.

The campaign was developed with support from the NPA and an educational grant from Pfizer.
