Political action plan for pharmacy

Consistent access to a wider range of pharmacy-based health services is one of the key targets the All-Party Pharmacy Group (APPG) is calling on the next Government to meet.

The APPG’s Actions for the new Government’s first 100 days sets out steps it would like the new Government to take to ensure that local commissioners make the best use of pharmacy, strengthen collaboration between community pharmacies and other healthcare providers, and prevent avoidable medicines shortages. Specific actions outlined in the wish list include introducing national minor ailments and flu vaccination services, extending the new medicine service and granting pharmacists full read-write access to patient health records.

Responding to the action plan, Charles Willis, Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) head of public affairs, said: “The APPG is a champion for the role of pharmacists in improving patient care and the RPS will continue to support such discussions in Parliament.”
