Repeats go electronic with Numark

Numark and Rx Systems have launched an innovative IT system which allows pharmacists to handle repeat medicines electronically, freeing up more time to spend with patients. Developed by healthcare systems provider EMIS, which owns Rx Systems, ‘Pharmacy Access’ allows pharmacies using Numark Assist V4 and the ProScript PMR system to transmit repeat medicines requests securely to EPS2-enabled GP surgeries. In addition, the system gives pharmacists access to relevant parts of a patient’s record, with GP and patient consent.

The service also includes a free ‘My Local Pharmacy’ mobile app that enables patients to request repeat medication from their pharmacy and set reminders to take their medicines. Managing director of Numark John D’Arcy said that the system would “help pharmacists to fulfil their fundamental role as medicines managers,” and act as “a tool to help pharmacists take responsibility for the whole [repeat prescription] process from beginning to end”.
