Superdrug opens first ‘wellbeing pharmacy’

Superdrug has opened a new concept store focusing on health and wellbeing in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Following customer feedback, the 5,000sqft store has been redesigned to include an open and accessible dispensary with cutaway counters, three consultation rooms, an electronic queue management system and large health and wellbeing segments, representing 70 per cent of the total stock.

In addition, the store has doubled its number of healthcare staff and invested in a second pharmacist and a healthcare nurse, as well as up-skilling all team members to be able to offer advice confidently.

Besides the core pharmacy services, the store will offer access to Marie Curie nurses for palliative care support, baby sensory classes and a travel health clinic.

Superdrug plans to roll out the concept to other stores, with the next one due to launch in Watford this summer, supported by learning from the Banbury project.

“There are so many different things that we can do more cost effectively and more conveniently for customers than other parts of the NHS,” Steve Gray, Superdrug healthcare director, told TM. “This is what the future of healthcare on the high street should look like.”
