Trim the fat, salt and sugar

Three-quarters of British adults want food manufacturers to reduce the amount of saturated fat, salt and added sugar in products to make it easier to eat more healthily, according to a new survey from Diabetes UK.

The charity is urging the Government to include mandatory targets for food manufacturers to make their products healthier in its upcoming Childhood Obesity Strategy.

Chris Askew, Diabetes UK chief executive, said: “Being overweight and obese are some of the most potent risk factors for type 2 diabetes, which is why it is essential that we have measures in place to help people make healthier choices and lead healthier lives. Too often making the healthy choice has become the difficult choice.”
