APTUK and UKCPA team up

The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) and the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA) have entered into preliminary discussions of working together to promote and support inter-professional learning within the pharmacy profession.

It is hoped that working together will strengthen learning opportunities, through clinical training programmes, for pharmacy technicians both as generalists during their foundation years and as specialists as their practice advances.

Initial discussions have focused around developing and delivering training events which are relevant in both content and stage of practice for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

APTUK president, Tess Fenn, said: “We are delighted that discussions have started to look at how we can work together in supporting professional excellence in pharmacy professionals, ultimately for the benefit of patients and medicines optimisation. The visions of both APTUK and UKCPA align, with both organisations encouraging excellence, leadership and partnership in all areas of pharmacy practice. We are very pleased to be engaged with and driving this initiative and look forward to further announcements as discussions continue.”

Sarah Carter, general secretary of the UKCPA, added: “Learning events which meet the needs of both professions will have the added advantage of encouraging inter-professional learning and fostering good relationships and understanding across the pharmacy workforce.”
