As good as gold

Reckitt Benckiser struck gold at last month’s SMART Awards, coming away with an impressive clutch of six awards. Charlotte Rixon reports

Reckitt Benckiser (RB) impressed readers and judges alike to scoop six awards at this year’s SMART Awards, held in Birmingham on 13 February.

Hosted by Pharmacy Magazine and sponsored by Numark, the SMART Awards recognise the valuable support healthcare companies provide to community pharmacy. Pharmacy Magazine editor Richard Thomas said: “The Awards are about applauding the very best in support from manufacturers for community pharmacy and bringing the two closer together for the benefit of patients and customers.”

Winning streak

Among RB’s wins were Best Product Promotion for Gaviscon Double Action and Best Professional Services Support for its Which? workshop programme with the Independent Pharmacy Federation. The RB team (pictured above) also triumphed in the reader-voted awards, winning Best Support for Independent Pharmacy and Best Overall Brand for Nurofen, as well as the highly coveted Best Overall Company Award.

Yvette Davies, RB’s national field sales strategy director, said: “It means a great deal to us that the sales, marketing and training programmes we develop specifically for community pharmacy have been recognised.”

Deserving winners

Congratulations also went to Omega Pharma, which took away the Best OTC Medicine Training Award for Lyclear, and Beiersdorf, which won Best Health & Beauty Launch for Eucerin even Brighter Clinical. Myriam Mizouni, Lyclear brand manager, said that she was “delighted” with the win, and added that the brand was “committed to continuing our investment into the headlice category,” and “supporting pharmacy teams”.

Special recognition

This year’s SMART Awards also recognised important work in generating positive publicity for community pharmacy. The National Pharmacy Association and PAGB with Pharmacy Voice were jointly commended for their respective campaigns ‘Come to Pharmacy First’ and ‘Treat Yourself Better’, while Brook Pharmacy in Halifax, West Yorkshire, received the Best Independent Community Pharmacy Healthcare Innovation Award.
