Recognition of Excellence 2019

Jessy Singh Gill

Jessy Singh Gill is no stranger to the Recognition of Excellence Awards, having been a finalist in 2017. He continued his success this year by scooping a highly commended in not one, but two categories: Customer Care and Counter Intelligence

Some 10 years since he started working in pharmacy – in the first instance as a general dogsbody with duties including cleaning the toilets – Jessy is now manager of Charnwood Pharmacy in Loughborough, Leicestershire. As comfortable on the shop floor as he is in the dispensary, Jessy was nominated by colleagues for his in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the business; his commitment to service development, which has included revolutionising the repeat prescription and delivery system; and his willingness to always go the extra mile.

Examples of this include sorting out a new housebound patient, who had been let down by their usual pharmacy, by obtaining a prescription and delivering the dispensed medication he desperately needed. He also identified a patient who had slipped into painkiller abuse and liaised sensitively and confidentially with her and the GP to come to a daily dispensing arrangement.

Two RoE Spotlight Award winners clamoured to commend Jessy, with Angela Lewis commenting on his problem solving skills and Myra Battle highlighting his “natural intuition”. Superintendent pharmacist of Bristol’s multi-award winning Bedminster Pharmacy, Ade Williams branded him as “person-centred, collaborative, clinical and proactive”.

Jessy’s pharmacist Bhavik Naran commented: “He has taken Charnwood Pharmacy to another level.” But Jessy shrugs all this off, saying: “I live for pharmacy and I live to help people”.
