PHE launches ‘One You’ campaign

A first-of-its-kind campaign has been launched by Public Health England (PHE) to address preventable disease in adults and improve quality of life both in middle age and later life.

The campaign highlights studies that show living healthily in middle age can double your chances of being healthy when you’re 70 but that the pressures of modern life such as bigger food portions, a desk-bound job or long commute, can make this difficult. Some 42 per cent of adults in midlife are living with at least one long-term health condition, many resulting from poor lifestyle, and this increases their risk of early death and disability.

One You will help adults move more, eat well, drink less and be smoke free, as well as reduce their stress levels and help them sleep better. To achieve this, the campaign is encouraging adults to take a new online health quiz called ‘How Are You’ which provides personalised recommendations based on individual results and directs people to tools and advice to help them take action where it’s most needed.

Professor Sir Muir Gray, clinical adviser for the One You campaign explained: “One You is designed to help every individual identify not only their risks but also the pressures they face in their life and the stress that results, and then support them with personalised tools and advice.”

Professor Kevin Fenton, national director of PHE commented that the scale of the campaign is unprecedented and will be seen “in every community, on every high street, in local health services, on websites and in social media. We want everyone across the country to know that it is never too late to get your health back on track.”
