Advice for pilgrims

Public Health England (PHE) and the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) have urged all Hajj and Umrah pilgrims to familiarise themselves with the latest health and travel advice, in relation to the outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus. In line with the World Health Organization, PHE and the NaTHNaC are not currently advising any travel restrictions to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) following the outbreak.

However, the KSA Ministry of Health has urged the following groups to postpone Hajj and Umrah for their own safety: the elderly, those with chronic diseases, immunodeficient patients, pregnant women and children. Dr Dipti Patel, joint director of NaTHNaC, said: “Pilgrims are strongly advised to follow our specific guidance about staying safe and healthy when travelling.” For more information, visit: www.nathnac.org/pro/factsheets/Hajj_Umrah.htm
