Growing support for Dementia Friends

Employers are becoming more supportive of people with dementia and their carers, reveals a Government report for Dementia Friends.

Published by Public Health England, the report found that more than half of businesses would consider providing a range of support to dementia carers, such as flexible working hours (63 per cent), working from different locations (53 per cent) and counselling and support (51 per cent). Jeremy Hughes, Alzheimer’s Society chief executive, said: “We’re all beginning to talk about dementia. However, society is not yet fully supportive of people with dementia, either in the workplace or everyday life”.

The RPS is encouraging pharmacies to back the initiative; last year, Day Lewis trained 400 of its staff to become Dementia Friends.
