Spotlight on breast cancer in the over 70s

A new campaign has launched in England this month to raise awareness of breast cancer in women over 70.

Running until 6 September, the initiative is part of Public Health England’s ‘Be Clear on Cancer’ strategy and will include TV, print and social media activity. One in three women who get breast cancer are aged over 70, and the campaign aims to encourage more women aged 70-plus to see their GP about unusual breast symptoms.

RPS English Board Chair Sandra Gidley said: “Pharmacists and their teams are well placed to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer and to help with early detection. We know that older people visit community pharmacies regularly and trust the advice they get from their pharmacists.”
