Welsh Government tackles liver disease

The Welsh Government has launched a national initiative to curb the rising incidence of liver disease and improve services for those affected. The new Liver Disease Delivery Plan aims to provide a more seamless service between different care providers, while giving patients an equal voice in their treatment and encouraging people to take responsibility for their health. It also aims to increase expertise in liver disease throughout NHS Wales and encourage clinical leadership among healthcare professionals to improve services and outcomes.

The plan also intends to reduce the number of people developing liver disease, as well as improving early detection and outcomes. “With support and encouragement, people can take responsibility for reducing their risk, particularly when it comes to the amount they drink, as alcohol continues to be the biggest cause of liver disease in Wales,” said deputy health minister Vaughan Gething.
