Collaborative working

Welcome to our CPD module series for community pharmacy technicians. Written in conjunction with the Pharmacy Magazine CPD series, it will mirror the magazine’s programme throughout the year. The series has been designed for you to use as part of your continuing professional development. Reflective exercises have been included to help you put your learning into practice.

Aim

To help pharmacy technicians understand how collaborative working between community pharmacies and GP practices can support safe and efficient pharmacist prescribing services.

Learning objectives

After completing this module pharmacy technicians will be able to:

  • Explain why GP practices and community pharmacies need to work together to manage same-day, minor illnesses
  • Describe practical ways pharmacy technicians can support service collaboration between their pharmacy and local GP practices.

Contributing authors: Dr Asifa Akhtar, GP partner and clinical supervisor; and Emma Anderson, pharmacist independent prescriber. Adapted for Training Matters
