An introduction to 2021

As a year, 2021 was incredibly busy, as community pharmacy continued to be the first point of contact with patients, ensuring the continued supply of medicines, responding to symptoms and signposting patients to appropriate healthcare advice and support.

Covid-19 continued to dominate health services and the role of community pharmacy expanded to deliver additional services. January 2021 saw six community pharmacies become the first of 200 in the sector to start offering Covid-19 vaccinations as part of the phase one vaccination programme. The service was so successful that many more pharmacies are now participating in phase three (the booster vaccination programme).
