Flu vaccinations
Last year’s pharmacy-led flu vaccination programme was extremely successful, and by the end of January 2021, community pharmacies had delivered more than 2.5 million flu vaccinations in England (an increase of more than one million) and 88,241 in Wales (an increase of more than 17,000).
Amendments to the Secretary of State Directions provide the legal basis for provision of the service (with a national protocol) as an alternative to the Patient Group Direction. The service specifications for each country can be found on the respective NHS websites. Most of the UK is now including people over 50 years of age because due to last year’s lockdowns, it is likely that flu and other respiratory diseases will have a greater impact this winter.
