Tadalafil – POM to P
In March tadalafil, available as Cialis Together, was reclassified by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as a pharmacy medicine enabling it to be purchased by men over the age of 18 after a consultation with the pharmacist.
This is the second POM to P switch for erectile dysfunction medication and comes six years after sildenafil (Viagra Connect) was reclassified in 2017. Cialis Together became commercially available in June with a duration of effect up to 36 hours (sildenafil is up to four hours). The dose is one 10mg tablet (also the maximum daily dose) at least 30 minutes before anticipated sexual activity.
Tadalafil cannot be sold to men with, or at risk of, severe cardiovascular disorders, severe liver or kidney failure or with interacting medication.
