module menu icon Types of plaque psoriasis

  • Flexural psoriasis affects the armpit, groin, genital and natal cleft sites and under the breasts. The plaques are typically red and shiny, often feel sore and are vulnerable to fungal infections
  • Seborrhoeic psoriasis affects the seborrhoeic areas of the face, scalp and trunk. Infection with Malessezia yeasts (the dandruff organisms) may play a role here
  • Scalp psoriasis can vary from light scaling to thickened scales stuck to the hair shafts. About 80 per cent of psoriasis patients will have some degree of scalp involvement. Profuse shedding of skin scales from the scalp can be a serious problem for some.
