Dietary deficits in over 50s

The Hidden Health Challenges is a new report, commissioned by the Proprietary Association of Great Britain (PAGB) and the Health Supplements Information Service (HSIS), which reveals the extent of nutritional gaps that are putting over-50s at increased risk of poor health.

The report states that although we’re living longer, we’re not living better and there are too many older people with diets lacking key nutrients to support healthy ageing, such as vitamins B and D, omega-3 and zinc.

As nutritional needs change as we get older – our metabolism slows and absorption of nutrients becomes impaired – the report highlights the need to provide better guidance for older people, starting with diet advice and recommending supplements to bridge any gaps.
