Recognition of Excellence 2020

Julie Morran

A lot has changed since Julie Morran began working at Boots as part of the Government’s Youth Opportunities Programme back in the ’80s

Apart from the evolution of pharmacy services, Julie herself has moved on from counter assistant to pharmacy manager and now works at Rowlands Pharmacy in Walsall. “I absolutely love it,” she says. “I eat, drink and sleep my branch.”

Julie’s pharmacy offers a broad range of additional services, but it’s the way she manages them that made them stand out and ensured she became a Service Excellence Award finalist. As well as advertising via posters and leaflets, and mentioning them during patient consultations, Julie organises event days and has regular meetings with local GP practices to keep them updated.

When it comes to flu jabs, her strategy involves “ringing every single person who we gave jabs to the year before. Usually, we have a queue out the door because I have rung that many.” Julie also works tirelessly to engage local care homes and she’s taken on five new ones, giving each of them the time and dedication they need and deserve.

Richard Dunne, judge and senior manager professional learning and development at Walgreens Boots Alliance, says: “Julie has shown that the passion she has for patients and their wellness is key to delivering above and beyond a pharmacy service.” Julie recieved highly commended in the Service Excellence category.
