Red flags
If a person with athlete’s foot presents with the following, advise them to see a GP:
- The over-the-counter treatments aren’t working
- They are experiencing a lot of discomfort
- The foot or leg is hot, painful and red; this could be a more serious infection
- The infection has spread to other parts of the body
- They have diabetes
- They have a weakened immune system6
- They have a loss of sensation in the foot or pins and needles.7
