Signs and symptoms
Symptoms can vary and present slightly differently. The main signs and symptoms include:
- Pain at the bite site
- A small, swollen lump on the skin, which may look red; the lump may be more difficult to see on black or brown skin, but you should be able to feel it
- Itchy skin that is raised around the bite
- One bite site on its own, several bunched together or multiple spread across the body
- A more swollen and painful insect bite site if the bite or sting gets infected.2
