Complications

Shingles is rarely life-threatening, but complications such as postherpetic neuralgia, eye problems, pneumonia or meningitis can sometimes occur, and are more likely if the person is living with a low immune system or is elderly.

It’s possible to have shingles more than once, but it’s very rare to get it more than twice.

“The main symptom of shingles is pain, followed by a rash that develops into itchy blisters”
