BlisterBack launch

TerraCycle makes moves to increase their recycling network in the UK, making it easier for the public and businesses to recycle their empty blister packs.

TerraCycle, the UK’s leading recycler of medicine blister packaging, launched TerraCycle BlisterBack on 16 May. The company announced their industry-wide solution to encourage the widespread collection and recycling of blister packs, which are made up of a complex mix of materials to protect medicines. The scheme is available to all across the healthcare industry, from pharmacies to GPs to veterinary practices, as TerraCycle aims to stop blister packs from ending up in landfill or being incinerated by implementing a network of recycling points.

Businesses can purchase a Zero Waste Box™ to offer a recycling point on their premises and there is potential for large retailers to partner up with TerraCycle. The solution includes an interactive map where the public can search for a recycling zone within their area where participating retailers will show up, and if there is not one close-by, they can select their closest In-Post locker to drop off a Zero Waste Bag filled with their empty blister packs.

Julien Tremblin, general manager of TerraCycle Europe, said of the new scheme: “We aim to develop a growing and robust nationwide network of drop-off points over the coming months and years so people across the UK have somewhere to take their empty medicine blister packs to be recycled.”
