Rowlands Pharmacy has partnered with ear care technology company TympaHealth to roll out hearing health services across its branches.

The collaboration will see selected Rowlands pharmacies conduct ear examinations via video using TympaHealth’s digital resource and carry out hearing checks.

The pharmacies will also be able to provide a wax removal service using TympaHealth’s microsuction technology. Rowlands said patients can book an appointment online or in-store.

“This will help to reduce the need for a GP referral or long NHS waiting times,” it said, citing research by TympaHealth revealing 28 per cent of people said long waiting lists was “a key reason for not addressing their ear and hearing health”.

The research also found 28 per cent did not realise their local pharmacy can offer support with this.

“We understand how frustrating and uncomfortable ear wax build-up can be, and how long many patients are waiting for help,” said Rowlands Pharmacy managing director Nigel Swift.

“This new service means people can now walk into their local Rowlands Pharmacy and receive quick, professional ear health check and wax removal using TympaHealth’s state-of-the-art microsuction technology.

“It’s safe, effective, and removes the need to suffer in silence or navigate lengthy referral pathways.”
