In 2012, the coalition Government published its alcohol strategy, which set out proposals to crack down on the €binge-drinking culture, cut the alcohol-fuelled violence and disorder that blights too many of our communities and slash the number of people drinking to damaging levels.€

Since then, Government policy has looked at controlling the sale and supply of alcohol, as well as reviewing alcohol licensing in favour of local communities and addressing the crime, disorder and health and social harms caused by alcohol.

In 2012, €Change4Life€ was launched to communicate the health harms of drinking above lower risk guidelines and provide a range of tools to encourage people to drink responsibly.
