9. Do you have any problems that may affect EC absorption?
If the customer has vomiting, severe diarrhoea or chronic bowel conditions such as Crohn’s disease that cause significant malabsorption, oral emergency contraception may be less effective and this should be discussed with the customer. The FSRH still states that the benefits of this method outweigh the risks.
10. Do you have severe liver disease?
Neither LNG or UPA are licensed for use in customers with severe liver disease. However, the FSRH states that the use of oral emergency contraception is not restricted by liver disease. The PGD should be checked to see what can be done locally.
11. Have you previously had a reaction to EC?
If the customer has previously had a reaction to EC, she should be referred to a doctor or sexual health clinic.
