New developments

Editor's comment September 2024.

Hello lovely readers! I am struck this month by the number of new developments in key health areas, such as Covid-19 vaccines and various diseases that are touched upon throughout this issue. This is certainly an aspect of the healthcare world that I love; that it is dynamic, ever-changing and striving for improvement.

We have some really interesting insights for you this September, our Public Eye feature explores new developments into the management of hand eczema – a debilitating condition for sufferers.

The Professional Assistant module looks at how pharmacy teams can support men with erection problems, an area where the OTC market has continued to grow rapidly in recent years – making the work of pharmacy staff like yourself even more vital.

We continue on with our Pharmacy First series, written specifically for the pharmacy team. This month it looks at impetigo and how to manage symptoms for those both eligible and ineligible for the service. Something I am continuously curious of is how, months into the launch of the service, you are getting on with running it within your pharmacies. Do get in touch if you would like to share your experiences.

The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) held their annual awards this month in Nottingham, to which I had the honour of being a judge. I am looking forward to hearing about their winners and their goals for the coming year. APTUK is always striving to recruit community pharmacy technicians, so why not get involved?

This is certainly an aspect of the healthcare world that I love; that it is dynamic, ever-changing and striving for improvement.
