An egg-cellent start to the day

Latest

Eating eggs for breakfast could help middle-aged people retain muscle mass as they get older, suggests a recent paper published in the British Journal of Community Nursing.

The paper highlights the effects of sarcopenia – a severe type of muscle mass loss that impacts on balance, gait and mobility and can affect people from the age of 50.

The experts stress the importance of consuming good quality proteins, ideally at every meal, to help prevent sarcopenia, as well as taking part in resistance exercise. They particularly recommend starting the day with eggs, as they offer an easily absorbed form of protein. In addition, eggs are no longer associated with high cholesterol, while the risk of salmonella is extremely low.
