Many people still believe that you need to open your bowels every day, and if you don't, there's something wrong. Although this isn't true, problems can occur when a person's normal pattern is disrupted.
Constipation occurs when the contents of the large intestine move slowly and more water than normal is absorbed from the faecal matter. This makes the stools harder and more compacted, which further slows down their passage through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

This module will tell you how to:
- Recognise the different symptoms of constipation
- Understand the actions and uses of different types of treatments and formats available
- Offer additional advice to the customer to manage the condition
- Know when to refer to the pharmacist.
