Signs and symptoms
Athlete’s foot tends to be asymmetrical and may be unilateral, usually presenting in one of three ways:1
- Interdigital type, the most common,3 presents with itchy erosions and/or scales between the toes, especially between the fourth and fifth toes1
- Moccasin or dry-type, which presents with scales covering the soles and sides of the feet, usually caused by Trichophyton rubrum1
- Vesicobullous type, which is an inflammatory variant that presents with small to medium-sized blisters (1-5mm), usually affecting the arches and soles of
the feet.3
