New NHS campaign to encourage families to get active

More than half of all children aged seven to 11 years in England are not getting the NHS-recommended 60 minutes of daily activity.

A new NHS Let’s Move! campaign is seeking to change this by encouraging families to take part in a New Moves Club, with the goal of trying new activities together and finding ways to make exercise fun.

Confidence can be a major barrier to exercise, with 44 per cent of children saying they don’t enjoy sport because they’re “not good at it”.

Whether it’s a walk in the park, learning to ride a bike or a 10-minute home workout, the campaign is encouraging parents and carers to get involved and celebrate having a go.

Let’s Move! is also hosting free or low-cost activities in Lancashire, Essex, Bradford and Sandwell – areas the campaign is targeting in particular – to get families active in their local communities.
