Pharmacy teams may have noticed an increase in inquiries about bacterial vaginosis (BV) recently, following a successful national campaign to raise awareness of the condition. Organised by women's healthcare experts Balance Activ, National BV Day (16 April) was covered in the national press and resulted in a fourfold increase in visits to dedicated information websites bvexplained.co.uk and balanceactiv.com.
The campaign featured real-life stories from women who have experienced BV and its complications, including premature birth and miscarriage, and directed women towards their pharmacy for advice. It also highlighted the fact that one in three women suffer from BV at some point in their lives, yet over half have not heard of it.
