This month, community pharmacies across Wales are raising awareness of Parkinson's disease through a new campaign. 'Parkinson's Medication €“ Talk to your pharmacy team' aims to promote the support services available to people with Parkinson's disease and their families and carers, as well as highlighting the importance of taking medicines at the right time. Patients with the condition who visit the pharmacy during June can benefit from an MUR.
Parkinson's affects around 8,000 people in Wales and causes tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement and an increased risk of falls. It is managed with complex medication regimens and there is no cure. Mair Davies, chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Welsh Pharmacy Board, which is supporting the campaign, said:
€It is vital that people with Parkinson's take their medicines at the right time, every time. We hope this campaign will help get this message across.€ Campaign resources are available from Community Pharmacy Wales (cpwales.org.uk).
