A summer job taken with Boots as a welcome introduction to “the real world” after university turned out to be a whole lot more than that for Charmaine
“It became the best decision I made, both in my subsequent career and because it helped to shape the person I am,” she says, adding that it helped her come out of her “previously reserved shell”.
“The pharmacy and health-based training packages are what gave me the confidence to have conversations with customers,” she says. “I was always able to ask questions and soon became fascinated by the health advisory services we offer and was keen to take up as much as I could, passing on that knowledge to our customers and fellow colleagues alike.”
During her seven-year career at Boots in Dartmouth, Devon, pharmacy advisor Charmaine has put this knowledge and training to good use. “My goal was and continues to be great empathy, great knowledge, great service,” she explains. This is something she achieves, with pharmacist Heather James describing her as “amazing on the counter and with patients”.
Her passion shone through to the judges too, with Ade Williams, superintendent pharmacist at M J Williams Pharmacy, commenting: “Charmaine is a pharmacy advocate and a true asset. You can tell she absolutely enjoys her role and using her knowledge to help others.” Charmaine recieved highly commended in the Counter Intelligence category.
