The common cold

Managing symptoms

On average, adults experience two or three colds a year, and children double that, so it is likely that pharmacy teams will regularly be asked for advice and product recommendations to help combat the symptoms. They can also help customers understand how the symptoms of a cold compare to those of flu and Covid-19 so that the most appropriate course of action can be taken.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand why there is no cure or vaccine for the common cold
  • Recognise the specific symptoms of a cold compared to flu
  • Be able to recommend different treatment options.
