module menu icon Infections of the reproductive tract

Now this module turns its attention to some of the infections that can affect the reproductive system, most – but not all – of which are transmitted through sexual contact.

Many sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have similar symptoms, namely:

  • Unusual discharge from the vagina, penis or anus
  • Pain when urinating
  • Lumps, blisters, sores or itching around the genitals
  • A rash
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding, for example after sex or between periods
  • Discomfort in the genital or lower abdominal area, sometimes during sex.
