Talking therapies, exercises and relaxation
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can be considered for low mood and anxiety associated with the menopause (a NICE recommendation). There are online resources for CBT, but it is generally advised that therapy should be initiated by a psychological therapist. Patients can often self-refer, so the pharmacy may wish to determine how this is accessed in their locality
- Breathing exercises and structured relaxation may be helpful
- Mindfulness may be another way to reduce stress and help with relaxation. There are a number of online apps, such as Headspace, that can help with this
- Sleep hygiene – advice for healthcare professionals on giving guidance can be found in the NICE Clinical Knowledge Summaries
- Pelvic floor exercises
- Exercise can reduce stress, anxiety and the likelihood of depression.
Reflective exercise
