Wellbeing: inside and out

Editor's comment May 2024.

Hello lovely readers! The trends of the 2000s - ‘Y2K’ era - have certainly made a big come back over the recent year. Low waisted jeans are something many of us never thought, hoped, would return. But do we still think about our bodies in the same way as we did then? Looking at the turnout for the Met Gala 2024 it seems skinny is still very much IN. Talking about weight remains, however, a sensitive, delicate and even taboo topic for many. This is even though it is a subject that people think about multiple times a day.

Our women’s health piece this month considers the ‘issue’ of weight as does our cognitive and mental wellbeing feature that focuses on eating disorders. We know pharmacy teams are well placed to signpost people to further support in this area, my hope is that these features give you the tools to feel more confident initiating these difficult conversations.

How you are feeling on the outside affects how you are feeling on the inside, and vice versa. Mental health conditions can be even harder to spot, but community pharmacy teams couldn’t be in a better position to pick up on when something isn’t right. Take a look at our stress and burnout feature to find out more and have a think about ways in which you can make the pharmacy a safe space for those in crisis.

A very good friend said to me just this week, a problem shared is a problem halved, sometimes people just need to talk and sometimes your job might just be to listen.
