Clarity on coeliac disease

In Latest

Coeliac UK has launched an animation video explaining coeliac disease, its causes and symptoms and the importance of a correct diagnosis.

It is estimated that approximately half a million people in the UK are unaware they have the autoimmune disease and as many as one in four people with coeliac disease are misdiagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). If left untreated, coeliac disease can cause severe health complications such as nutritional deficiencies, osteoporosis and in extreme cases lymphoma. The animation aims to help those undiagnosed, or with an incorrect diagnosis, get the correct treatment.

The animation shows what happens throughout the diagnosis process itself and reiterates the importance of a correct diagnosis for a healthy and higher quality life.

Coeliac UK also has an online assessment form to complete for those who suspect they have the condition.
