Key organisations
There are several organisations involved in ensuring quality in the care home environment. The two organisations leading on this are the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and local authorities.
The CQC is the independent body that regulates all health and social care services in England. Their role is to monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety.2 This includes general practices. They publish what they find, including performance ratings, to help people choose the most appropriate care for their individual circumstances.
The purpose of the CQC is to make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, high-quality care – and to encourage care services to improve.
