  • Drink plenty of water to keep the body hydrated. During a bout of cystitis, this will help to flush bacteria out of the bladder
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
  • Drinking cranberry juice may help prevent cystitis coming back, and some people use it to relieve the symptoms of an attack. It is thought that cranberry juice might help to stop bacteria sticking to the urinary tract
  • Avoid sex until the cystitis has cleared up
  • Do not 'hold on' when feeling the need to use the toilet
  • Use a hot water bottle to help relieve abdominal pain
  • Always wipe the bottom from front to back
  • Urination immediately after sexual intercourse may help to prevent further attacks of cystitis as it will help to flush out bacteria from the urethra.
