The main symptom of cystitis is an intense pain and/or burning sensation when a woman passes urine. Other symptoms include increased frequency of urination; passing small quantities of urine; greatly increased urgency when a person needs to pass urine, and particularly smelly and cloudy urine.

Cystitis can also occur in men, with symptoms being more or less the same as in women. However, the condition is far less common in men and, more often than not, it points to another, more serious, underlying cause, such as kidney stones or prostate disease.

Male customers who present with symptoms of cystitis should always be referred to the pharmacist.
