As our Men’s Health article makes clear, men often find it difficult to access or seek health advice and, for men, the pharmacy is all too often about shelves full of make-up and no spanners! Think creatively about how your pharmacy can be more attractive to men. Your advice and pharmacy services may be excellent, but if men don’t visit the pharmacy, they won’t be accessing what’s available.

Pharmacies already offer appealing features for men, including long opening hours and no appointments, both of which are important for busy men who might struggle to find time to see a GP. In addition, the pharmacy offers an anonymous service, which may be particularly welcome to men suffering from potentially embarrassing problems.

Perhaps talk to the men in your pharmacy team as well as male friends and members of your family: ask them how or if they think about their health. How do they deal with health issues? Do they keep their health concerns to themselves? Who do they talk to?

Such conversations may pave the way to fresh ideas on how you can engage men in the pharmacy. Those who are leading the Team Tuesday training will find accompanying learning prompts and teaching notes here.
