A new survey of people living with cancer reveals that unanswered questions are keeping them awake at night, highlighting a need for additional support to help them manage the impact that cancer can have on their daily lives.
According to the survey of over 1,000 cancer patients, commissioned by Boots UK and Macmillan Cancer Support, 34 per cent of people who would have liked more information from their healthcare team about a range medical, practical, financial and emotional issues say that unanswered questions about their health have kept them awake at night. In addition, 49 per cent do not recall asking their healthcare team about the potential side effects of treatment on their physical appearance, and over a third of this group (35 per cent) felt it was inappropriate to ask.
A further 30 per cent said they had unanswered questions about the side effects of their prescribed medication. Peter Bainbridge, director of pharmacy services at Boots UK, said: €Every day our Boots Macmillan information pharmacists are talking to and supporting people affected by cancer, so we know how finding the right information and support can make a real difference.€ Boots UK and Macmillan Cancer Support are working together to provide trained pharmacists and beauty advisors to offer emotional support across selected Boots stores.
