CPPE launches Parkinson's workshops

The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has launched a focal point programme on Parkinson's disease, with workshops being available across England from October.

Parkinson's is the second most common neurodegenerative condition in the UK, with approximately 120,000-130,000 diagnosed cases and many more potentially undiagnosed. Pharmacy teams have an important role to play not only in the management of medicines for these patients but also in providing information and support for patients and their carers, believes CPPE.

In the Parkinson's workshop, pharmacy professionals will consider:

  • The effects of motor and non-motor Parkinson's symptoms on patients
  • Treatment options available for people with Parkinson's, as well as the potential side effects and interactions with these medicines
  • Supporting people with Parkinson's to get the best from their medicines
  • Signposting people living with Parkinson's and their carers to useful sources of advice.

Elizabeth Reid, senior pharmacist, learning development at CPPE says: €Being able to support patients and carers when they need to find more information and advice will empower them to manage this long-term condition.€
