Electronic cigarettes could soon be banned in public spaces in Wales under a new Public Health Bill. In the bill, the Welsh Government has outlined proposals to ban e-cigarettes in enclosed and 'substantially enclosed' public and work places to bring their use into line with smoke-free legislation. If it is introduced, Wales will become the first part of the UK to introduce such restrictions on e-cigarettes.
The public health bill also proposes to create a national register of tobacco and nicotine product retailers and make it illegal to hand over such products to anyone under the age of 18. Supporting the move, Mair Davies, Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Welsh Pharmacy Board Chair, said: €If we don't act now, there is a danger smoking will become the 'normal' thing to do again. E-cigarettes could become the gateway to tobacco. We do not believe this is a risk worth taking.€
